Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion is celebrating its 19th year of welcoming guests from all over the world. The company offers day excursions on board a vintage train powered by either steam or diesel locomotive where passengers experience train travel as it was when Alberta and the Prairies first opened to settlement plus much more.

Alberta Prairie is much more than just a train ride. There is always a home style full course meal, usually a roast of Alberta Beef buffet presented in the community hall in Big Valley and on board entertainment in two forms. There are performers who move about the train regaling passengers in their seats with song, story and humour, plus performers who invite passengers to venture down the train to the Lone Star Saloon.
It is quite an adventure just to move down the train which can be up to a block long and features a whole variety of different coach interiors from former sleepers to mahogany-lined day coaches. In fact although the train's exterior is uniform, the interior of no two coaches are the same.
Then there are the train robbers. These horse mounted, masked and heavily armed outlaws can hit the train at any place or anytime. And they are a slippery bunch. Try as they may the police don't seem to be able to catch them and they may have even stopped looking.
